Kitchen designs

Bright yellow hi-gloss cabinets give a real lift to this large kitchen and are contrasted with the soft white walls. Dark flooring adds an industrial feel to the space. Modern and sleek appliances complete the look.

Off-set the warmth of walnut furniture and maintain a fresh look by choosing wall cabinets in a soft shade of cream. Then choose granite worktops and matching upstands to give a continuous feel

This award-winning home, designed by an architect involved in The Eden Project, provides inspiration in its innovative kitchen. The hi-gloss island is curved to echo the shape of the walls. It gently tapers to the middle of the hosue, following the design idea that the kitchen radiates from the centre. As well as the gas hob, the island also includes a fridge and freezer

The mix of pattern and colour makes this sunny kitchen-diner stand out. The owl wall rug is an original focal point and adds personality, while the contrasting fabrics on the chairs help to inject some playful colour into the traditional white room

Colourful curtains and accessories give this kitchen dining area a bright and modern feel. The smart, plain units have a solid, timeless look that would work with most styles, so simply changing the curtains or bar stools would be an inexpensive way of updating the style in the future. White walls match the white surfaces, bringing the whole look together.

Striking purple gloss cabinetry creates great visual impact in this dramatic kitchen and is complimented by a bank of gleaming stainless-steel appliances. Walls are painted a pale white to soften the look, while a sleek crystal chandelier adds interest to the central island and breakfast bar.

Cool greys and white provide a muted backdrop for the striking hot-pink chairs and painted-glass splashback. The central island is a great place for the family to have breakfast, or for entertaining guests while preparing food. Built-in shelves tidy away kitchenalia, while sleek kitchen appliances complete the look.

This kitchen has been painted in a stormy grey to create a cool industrial-chic scheme. The mood is livened up with neon bright accents, such as the yellow chair, tile splashback and patterned blind. Glossy white kitchen units give it a super-modern edge.

The unique curvy breakfast bar creates an unusual focal point to this kitchen and softens the lines of the modern units. A seamless chocolate-coloured worktop accentuates the sweep of the curve and provides a stunning contrast with the pale units. Stainless steel pendant lights and contemporary bar stools complete the look.

A large open-plan kitchen like this one is ideal for large families where the chef wants to keep an eye on the kids. The high-gloss bar stools look great with white kitchen units and black granite surfaces – it’s the perfect space for breakfasts. A simple colour palette helps create a seamless flow in the space, with mahogany-effect flooring throughout
